Video, Paper Objects
1:1
A series of 1:1 paper translations of civic architecture and functional structures constrained by a strict system of observation, measurement, and production. Each source object was measured precisely and then flattened into a paper artifact. This includes objects such as sixteen bike racks spiral bound, a chain-mesh door made out of vellum and coil, a construction paper book of seventy-eight window panes, rolls of pedestrian crossing lines, etc., all of which were produced at an exact 1:1 scale.
These objects were presented alongside a video of the designer measuring features of the built environment around Providence, RI. The video above is a sample of a longer piece that was played on a continuous loop in a physical installation of the work.
All of the typography featured in this project was produced using a Leroy Lettering Set, a manual drafting tool used for creating precise, uniform lettforms on technical drawings, blueprints, and architectural plans before it was made obsolete with the emergence computer-aided design (CAD) software.
This project was presentated in a physical installation which included the paper objects installed on a work table alongside the full-length video and a manifesto that guided the piece in early spring 2023.
